History

The local branch of the National Farmers Association (NFA) conceived the Crossmolina Agricultural Society in 1955. At the time Crossmolina NFA was in its infancy and it wanted to celebrate its existence. What better way than to exhibit its produce to the local community through the vehicle of an Agricultural & Industrial Show. The inaugural committee consisted of farmers, clergy and members of the local business community. A few years later, circa 1960, the first women joined the committee. The involvement of women ensured that the committee better represented the community as a whole.
